TELLING REAL UNAPOLOGETIC TRUTH THROUGH HEALING

The Telling Real Unapologetic Truth Through Healing (T.R.U.T.H.) Project, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and mobilize LGBTQ communities of color and their allies through social arts that promote mental, emotional, and sexual health.

OUR PURPOSE

ESTABLISHED IN 2013, AS A RESOURCE FOR LGBTQ+

Created to fill the void of limited programming and support for LGBTQ+ communities of color and their allies, the T.R.U.T.H. Project (TTP) has made possible a safe space for which individuals can express themselves, and seek guidance and support, that often proves to be life transforming or even lifesaving. We envision a world where all LGBTQ+ communities live their lives free of stigma.

ONGOING EVENTS

FORGING ALLIES &
PARTNERSHIPS VIA EVENTS

The T.R.U.T.H. Project has partnered with local and state institutions such as Catastrophic Theater, University of Houston, Rice University, AIDS Foundation Houston, Lesbian Health Initiative, Impulse Houston, and the Texas State Department of Health Services to promote engagement and investment in LGBTQ+ communities of color and allies.

Four installments are held each year, and use the universal language of art to raise awareness and provide education about subjects including:

Pride, Abuse, Discrimination, Bullying, Coming Out, HIV Awareness, Self-Esteem, and Trans Awareness.

We are excited to announce that our short documentary, AND WE REST ON GIANTS, has won Best Short Documentary at the 2024 Black Alphabet Film Festival & Best Short Documentary (Special Programming) at the August Wilson Black Bottom Film Festival!

Director’s statement: After 17 years of serving community in Public Health, providing HIV/STI education and empowerment, and witnessing the effects of HIV and stigma within communities of color, I began to understand the importance of reaching community in larger volume. During the onset of the pandemic I began exploring storytelling thorough a lens. After teaming up with photographers and videographers I realized that the narrative of sexual health could further be explored, behind the lens. The stories of long term HIV survivors and thrivers resonates because we are experiencing a generation of individuals that thought they would no longer be living and a generation of individuals that can learn through their narrative. For me, And We Rest on Giants is a love story to those living with HIV and a glimpse of resilience when you begin to recognize your worth!

From the Root: A Collection of nine stories about family, pride, acceptance, mental health, and HIV is a nationally launched, southern-focused campaign whose over-arching goal is to educate, and encourage healthy mental wellness through the reduction of Stigma among Queer communities of color and allies. Shared through storytelling, unapologetic realities are revealed and experienced in hope of connecting and healing. Sometimes awareness can change the path of your life. This project is generously funded by AIDS United and Southern HIV Impact Fund.
